Fairbanks - The Digital transition is a confusing process and many people have questions about how it will affect them. Most people don’t realize if they have cable, satellite, or some other paid TV service they will not be affected by the transition. They will get their TV service without interruption and are probably already watching in digital.
Here at Tanana Valley Television we are already broadcasting in digital for FOX and CBS. CBS is digital but will also remain analog as well. If you can see CBS now that will not change!
FOX is digital as well but will be cut off the air and the signal will be boosted and put back on the air. Chris Fry the General Manager of Tanana Valley Television gave me this statement.
In Order to complete the required transition to digital broadcasting before the February 17,2009 deadline, station KFXF, Fairbanks, must terminate analog transmission as early as the evening of January 14th (depending on out tower crew’s availability). If you are receiving KFXF on channel 7 using an analog TV with an over-the-air, non-satellite antenna, you will lose reception of the station at that time. To continue receiving our programming on channel 7 over-the-air with an analog only TV, you must obtain a digital converter box. For more information on converter boxes, click on www.dtv2009.gov. For viewers already using a digital television or a converter box, please rescan for signal on January 14th after 10pm. KFXF also offers an analog simulcast of KFXF on channel 14 which will be uninterrupted during this transition. For more information or to comment, please contact Chris Fry at 3650 Braddock street in Fairbanks or by email at chris@tvtv.com or by phone at 374-1505.
I hope this helps you feel more comfortable about the transition and the steps that are being taken to make this as smooth as possible for you our viewers.
If you would like to comment on this please feel free to put in on the blog or the message boards. We are always glad to hear what you have to say.
