Fairbanks - The National Kidney Foundation Serving Alaska will offer a free kidney health screening for people at increased risk for kidney disease on Saturday, October 24th at the UPark Building Gym, 1000 University Blvd in Fairbanks from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. The screening is part of the National Kidney Foundation's Kidney Early Evaluation Program (KEEP) designed to identify and educate people at risk- those with diabetes, high blood pressure or a family history of kidney disease. If you are at risk for kidney disease, we encourage you to schedule an appointment for the free screening by calling 1-877-889-6318 or 907-223-1562, or email Kristie.Lemmon@kidney.org. There will be limited space for walk ins. Participants must be 18 years or older.
"We know that if we start early with education, decection and if necessary, medical intervention, we can often postpone the onset of kidney disease of kidney failure," says Kristie Lemmon, KEEP Program Manager. Twenty six milion Americans have chronic kidney disease, including lifestyle changes and medications, may SLOW or PREVENT its progression to kidney failure and lessen the risk of cardiovascular disease.
